Be it for killing time or entertainment or educational purposes, we all like to watch movies. Movies have a large variety, namely- Action/Adventure/Romance/Mystery and so on… Sci-Fi is one of them. From 90s to 2018, a hell lot of movies were made on this particular category and we hated some while fell in love with many. So, here’s our list of TOP 10 Sci-Fi movies you shouldn’t miss!

10 – AVATAR (2009)
Written & directed by “James Cameron” (director of Titanic), this movie stands strong even today, with the rating of 7.8/10 on IMDB. It stars- Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver. The movie won many awards including the one for best Visual Effects & the other for best Cinematography.
MOVIE INFO- The film is set in the mid-22nd century, when humans are colonizing Pandora, a lush habitable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system, in order to mine the mineral unobtanium, a room-temperature superconductor. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na’vi- a humanoid species indigneous to Pandora. The title of the film refers to a genetically engineered Na’vi body with the mind of a remotely located human that is used to interact with the natives of Pandora.
Made with a budget of $246 million, the film earned $2.788 billion (worldwide) & hit the ball out of the park!
9 – EDGE OF TOMORROW (2009)
Doug Liman‘s this movie managed to impress critics but got mixed reviews from audience with the ratings of 7.9/10 on IMDB. It stars- legendary Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt in lead roles. It should be noted that this movie is based on 2004 Japanese light novel “All You Need Is Kill”
MOVIE INFO: The film takes place in a future where most of Europe is invaded by an alien race. Major William Cage (Tom), a public relations officer with no combat experience, is forced by his superiors to join a landing operation against the aliens. Though Cage is killed in combat, he finds himself in a time loop that sends him back to the day preceding the battle every time he dies. Cage teams up with Special forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt) to improve his fighting skills through the repeated days, seeking a way to defeat the extraterrestial invaders.
The film performed average at the box office as with the budget of $178 million, it earned $370.5 million
8 – STAR TREK (2009)
Directed by J.J. Abrams & written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, this is the 11th film in Star Trek film franchise. It stars John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Eric Bana and Leonard Nimoy. The film stands strong with the ratings of 8/10 on IMDB
MOVIE INFO: The film follows James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) aboard USS Enterprise as they combat Nero (Eric Bana), a Romulan from their future who threatens the United Federation of Planets. The story takes place in an alternate reality because of time travel by both Nero and the original Spock (Leonard Nimoy). The alternate timeline was created in an attempt to free the film and the franchise from established continuity constraints while simultaneously preserving original story elements.
The film performed above average (boxoffice) by earning $385.7 million from the total budget of $150 million.
7 – STAR WARS/THE FORCE AWAKENS (2015)
This American epic space opera film was directed by J.J.Abrams & is the first installment of the StarWars sequel triology and the 7th installment of StarWars film franchise. It stars- Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Issac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max von Sydow. With the ratings of 8.2/10, this one promises to keep you engaged through-out.
MOVIE INFO- The film follows Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron’s search for Luke Skywalker and their fight alongside the Resistance, led by General Leia Organa and veterans of the Rebel Alliance, against Kylo Ren and the First Order, a successor to the Galactic Empire. With stunning visual effects and unique action scenes, this one is for the every action lover out there.
The film performed brilliantly at the box-office as it earned $2.068 billion against it’s budget of $306 million. It also holds the record for Biggest Worldwide openings and is at number 3
6 – GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (2014)
Directed by “James Gunn“, this superhero movie is based on Marvel comics and surely turned many heads. Both audience & critics appreciated the film by giving it the ratings of 8.1/10 Actors in the lead roles were- Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper & Dave Bautista.
MOVIE INFO- Kidnapped by the aliens when he was young, Peter Quill now travels the galaxy salvaging anything of value for resale. When he comes across a silver orb however, he gets more than he bargained for. The orb is highly desired by many but by none so powerful as Ronan. When Ronan finally acquires it, it’s left to Peter & his newfound friends Gamora (daughter of Thanos), Drax, Groot & Rocket to stop him.
Against it’s budget of $232.3 million, the film managed to earn $773.3 million (with the profit margin satisfying enough to put a smile on investors’ faces) *lol*
5 – V for VENDETTA (2005)
Directed by “James McTeigue” & written by “the Wachowski Brothers” this movie is based on DC/Vertigo comics limited series. The film managed to impress critics & many political groups, yes, you read it right and hold the impressive ratings of 8.2/10
FILM INFO- The film is set in an alternate future where a Nordic Supremacist and neo-fascist regime has subjugated the United Kingdom. Hugo Weaving potrays V, an anarchist freedom fighter who attempts to ignite a revolution through elaborate terrorist acts, and Natalie Portman plays Evey, a young, working class girl who gets caught up in V’s mission, while Stephen Rea portrays the detective leading a desperate quest to stop V. Filled with twists/turns, brain teasers and uniqueness, this one promises you a movie worth watching.
The film’s performance at box-office wasn’t extra-ordinary (due to it’s low popularity) but it managed to recover investments with a reasonable profit. It earned $132.5 million against it’s budget of $54 million.
4 – WALL E (2008)
Andrew Stanton‘s WALL E is an american computer-animated sci-fi film. It stars the voices of Ben Burtt, Elissa Knight, Jeff Garlin, Fred Willard, John Ratzenberger, Kathy Najimy and Sigourney Weaver. The film was vastly appreciated by audience and holds the spectacular ratings of 8.4/10.

The film fared outstanding against it’s budget of $180 million by earning $533.3 million.
3 – AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (2018)
Marvel’s Avengers series needs no introduction as it is one of the most popular and successful franchise. Directed by Anthony Russo & Joe Russo, this is a sequel to 2012’s The Avengers & 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The movie holds the terrific ratings of 8.6/10

Since 2002, Avengers:Infinity War has become the biggest worldwide film opening. Made with a budget of est.$400 million, it earned massive $2.046 billion.
2 – INTERSTELLAR (2014)
One of the most amazing and popular movie of all time is Interstellar. Directed by the great Christopher Nolan, this movie holds the ratings of 8.6/10. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastian, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn and Michael Caine.
MOVIE INFO- Set in a dystopian future where humanity is struggling to survive, the film follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole in search of a new home for humanity. Leaving the robots and superheroes’ same old content, Nolan comes up with a unique story & screenplay and doesn’t fail to impress us. From kids to elders, he won hearts and earned our respect for this one. Watch it if you didn’t and you’ll understand why this is at number 2 spot on our list.
1 – INCEPTION (2010)
Yet another masterpiece from Christopher Nolan, a movie which came out 8 years ago and made a special place in our hearts. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio in a lead role and holds the amazing ratings of 8.8/10
MOVIE INFO- Leonardo Dicaprio plays the role of a professional thief who steals information by infiltrating the subconscious and is offered a chance to have his criminal history erased as payment for the implantation of another person’s idea into a target’s subconscious. Doing so, costs him everything he has ever loved. One last job can give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible- inception. Filled with thrill, suspense and amazing storyline, you should watch this before you die *lol*
